If you want to keep some content concealed from the public eye, you could switch on password protection for a given folder - either the main site folder or a different one below it. If this feature is active, a pop-up shall appear each time a person tries to open the folder in question or clicks on a direct link which goes a few levels deeper, so login info shall be necessary for www.domain.com/folder/image.jpg if you have secured just the domain.com folder. When the credentials are not valid, a “403 Forbidden” message shall appear and there is no way to get around this restriction, so you can be positive that nobody shall be able access the shielded content. The option can be useful in a variety of cases - if only certain individuals must be able to see certain files, if you are building a website and you don't want people to see it prior to it being completed, and so on.
Password Protected Directories in Cloud Hosting
Creating a password-protected area will take merely a couple of clicks and a few seconds when you host your websites within a cloud hosting account with us. You will not have to do anything difficult - you will need to choose a domain/subdomain, to choose which folder under it has to be protected, and then to enter the login name and password that'll be used to access that folder. When a number of people need their own login credentials, there won't be a problem to make several different usernames with access to the same exact folder. All secured folders will appear with a padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you'll always know where this option is active. If you'd like to disable the protection function for any folder, you can deactivate it from the exact same section of the Control Panel in which you have enabled it.
